Job description

We are looking to welcome a qualified dispenser into our busy practice, to play a full and active role as part of the practice multi-disciplinary team.

Ideally working 30 hours a week, the successful candidate will work:

• Monday 8.30-6.30 (1 hour lunch)
• Tuesday 8.30-2.30
• Wednesday off
• Thursday 8.30-2.30
• Friday ideally 8.30-6.30 (1 hour lunch), although could be 3.30-6.30

Main duties of the job

• Process all relevant prescriptions and repeat prescriptions as authorised by GPs and prescribing nurses where appropriate, in accordance with the good practice principles of the Dispensing Services Quality Scheme;
• Ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription and whenever there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item, or about the dose or labelling instructions, to check with the authorising doctor or duty doctor;
• Collect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is duly filled in and signed by the patient;
• Manage ordering stock and stock control;
• Deal with dispensary phone enquiries;
• Sort and dispose of unwanted/returned medication;
• Assist in the smooth day-to-day running of the dispensary and surgery as directed by the dispensary lead or practice manager.

Person Specification

Experience

• At least 2 years of dispensary and pharmacy experience;
• Excellent clinical and medication knowledge;
• Understanding and experience of working as a dispenser in a GP practice setting;
• The commitment to continue to learn new clinical skills and develop your career;
• The confidence to work as part of a busy GP multi-disciplinary practice team and using your own initiative in decision making;
• The ability to be adaptable and flexible in your approach;
• Excellent patient-facing interpersonal communication skills.

Qualifications

• At least a Diploma Level 2/3 Dispensary or equivalent Pharmacy Services qualification;
