Job summary

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an adaptable pharmacy service assistant to support the dispensary and ward-based medicines management. You will use the pharmacy computer system to dispense labels, process stock movements and assist with inpatient and outpatient prescriptions under dispensary procedures.

You will also assist with extemporaneous preparations, stock control, training of pre-registration students, audits, and reception duties.

Responsibilities

• Produce dispensing labels using the pharmacy computer system
• Manage stock issues, receipts and transfers
• Dispend inpatient and outpatient prescriptions per dispensary procedures
• Assist with ward stock checks and expiry date checks
• Extemporaneous dispensing including creams, ointments and liquids
• Maintain and prepare dispensing equipment
• Train and induct pre-registration students and ATOs
• Participate in audits and development of the dispensary service
• Provide reception cover and handle telephone queries
• Support ward staff with medicines management and safe storage
• Assist with transfer of medicines between wards and delivery within wards
• Return unused medicines to pharmacy and ensure proper waste disposal
• Communicate effectively with ward staff, pharmacists and medicines management staff
• Support extended ward roles according to SOPs and supervised practice
• Monitor issues with stock and liaise with ward pharmacist/manager
• Photocopying, filing and scanning documents as needed
• Collect essential documentation for swift patient discharge
• Contact GP surgeries or community pharmacies when required
• Provide training to pharmacy support staff and participate in internal training
• Complete reports and audits and participate in work-based development
• Maintain confidentiality and a tidy, safe working environment
• Participate in various shifts including evenings, weekends and bank holidays as rota
• Any other duties requested by Lead Pharmacist, Ward-Based Technician Manager or Clinical Director of Pharmacy and Medicines Management
