The Dispatch Porter keeps packing stations fully stocked, organised, clean and ready for continuous operation. By replenishing supplies before they run out, you will reduce avoidable downtime and help the Dispatch team meet its productivity targets.
This is a practical, active role for someone who can work at pace, anticipate what colleagues need and act without being continually directed.
Reports to: Dispatch Team Leader / Warehouse Manager
Unsuccessful applications and files are securely deleted after three months.
Pay and bonus
- Starting rate of £13.50 per hour, rising to £14.10 per hour on successful completion of probation and required training.
- Opportunity to earn a company performance bonus of up to £3,200 per person per annum, subject to company performance and the bonus scheme’s eligibility and payment terms.
- Monitor packing stations throughout the shift and keep them supplied with the correct boxes, tape and other packing consumables.
- Ensure blue roll and other permitted cleaning consumables are available when needed.
- Refill designated packaging trolleys as spaces become available and bring stock from storage to Dispatch.
- Put the correct packaging in the correct designated locations.
- Anticipate requirements rather than waiting for a packer to run out of supplies.
- Raise low packaging or consumable stock with the Team Leader before it affects packing.
- Keep packers supplied so they can remain at their stations wherever practicable.
- Move completed parcels, cages, trolleys and other items to their designated areas when required.
- Remove empty boxes, packaging materials and waste promptly.
- Keep walkways clear and return empty trolleys, crates and equipment to their designated locations.
- Move packaging and materials around Dispatch and Warehouse as needed.
- Respond promptly to the Dispatch Team Leader’s operational requests and take action on potential bottlenecks within the role’s responsibilities.
Housekeeping and organisation
- Keep Dispatch clean, tidy and organised throughout the shift and follow Clean As You Go standards.
- Maintain orderly packaging storage areas and return equipment after use.
- Flatten and dispose of cardboard and packaging waste using the correct waste streams.
- Keep fire exits, pedestrian routes and access points clear.
- Report damaged equipment, packaging and unsafe conditions immediately.
Food safety, health and safety
- Follow site food safety, hygiene and health-and-safety procedures and wear the required PPE.
- Use safe manual-handling methods when moving packaging, stock, trolleys and other loads.
- Only use equipment for which you have been trained or authorised.
- Maintain good personal hygiene and comply with site hygiene rules.
- Report hazards, near misses, accidents and food-safety concerns immediately.
What success looks like
- Packing stations remain stocked and packer downtime caused by missing supplies is minimal.
- Packaging is replenished before it runs out and designated trolleys and stock locations are refilled promptly.
- Dispatch stays clean and organised with little packaging-related disruption.
- Packers and team leaders receive clear communication and problems are spotted and resolved proactively.
- Performance is measured by how effectively you enable packers to work, rather than simply by how much stock you move.
