Latymer Prep School is a lively, energetic and creative two-form-entry independent day school in London for boys and girls aged 7–11. The school is now seeking a well-qualified and enthusiastic Director of Teaching and Learning & Head of English.

Key Responsibilities

• Developing and implementing a comprehensive curriculum strategy aligned with the school’s vision and values.
• Leading and supporting subject leaders in developing and delivering a dynamic, ambitious curriculum.
• Providing ongoing professional development to enhance curriculum delivery, pedagogy, and assessment.
• Conducting classroom observations, supporting teaching staff to maintain high academic standards for all pupils.
• Analysing data and evidence to inform and refine curriculum planning and delivery
• Using pupil performance data to assess the effectiveness of teaching and learning.
• Keeping abreast of the Middle Years Curriculum reform to ensure the Prep School curriculum is ambitious and aligned with that of Latymer Upper School.
• Leading an outstanding English department, overseeing the delivery of an innovative curriculum for all pupils in Years 3–6.
• Establishing, reviewing and revising the English syllabus for each year group.
• Planning and writing long-term, medium-term and weekly lesson plans for English.
• Managing the expenditure of the English departmental budget.

Skills and Experience

• Appropriate academic background.
• Ability to lead and support teaching staff.
• Experience teaching children across Years 3–6 in Key Stage 2.
• Ability to lead the English department across the school, teaching Years 5 and 6 and supporting the rest of the English department in Years 3 and 4.
• A teaching and learning philosophy in line with the school’s growth mindset approach.
• Ability to nurture independence of thought and academic success.
• Passion for the education of children and a desire to help pupils be the best they can be.
• A dynamic and forward-thinking approach.
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
