Director of Learning (Head of Maths Department)

Location: Birmingham
Start Date: September 2025
Salary: £220 - £280 per day
Contract: Full-Time - Temporary to Permanent

GSL Education is seeking an experienced and inspirational Director of Learning of Maths to join a dynamic secondary school in Birmingham from September 2025. This is a fantastic opportunity for a middle or senior leader with a proven track record of raising achievement and leading curriculum development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Maths department, driving high standards in teaching, learning, and student outcomes
  • Develop and implement a clear vision and development plan aligned with whole-school priorities
  • Support, coach, and develop departmental staff through mentoring, INSET, and performance management
  • Oversee curriculum design, schemes of work, assessment, and tracking systems
  • Use performance data to identify areas for improvement and implement effective interventions
  • Coordinate enrichment and intervention programmes to support student progress
  • Foster strong partnerships with parents and the wider community
  • Promote and model the school’s ethos and values, including discipline, ambition, teamwork, and respect

Person Specification:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Successful experience of delivering outstanding teaching and learning
  • Proven leadership experience within a secondary school department or faculty
  • Ability to coach and motivate colleagues to achieve high performance
  • Strong understanding of curriculum planning, assessment, and use of data
  • Committed to inclusion, safeguarding, and student wellbeing
  • Strong organisational, communication, and strategic planning skills
