Supporting men in crisis, saving lives: James’ Place provides vital, life-saving therapy when it’s needed most. Join us as our new Director of Fundraising and External Affairs and help us transform support for men in suicidal crisis.

Location: National - London, Liverpool, Newcastle, or Birmingham, with regular travel to each centre (min 3 days p/w office based)

Who We Are

James’ Place is a charity on a critical mission to save the lives of men in suicidal crisis. With centres located in London, Liverpool, and Newcastle, and further expansion plans across the UK, we are committed to offering our brief, intensive therapeutic intervention to men facing crises, such as relationship breakdown, financial problems, or bereavement. To date, we have treated over 3,000 men, providing proven clinical services that significantly reduce psychological distress. As we continue to expand our reach and improve service delivery, we are seeking an exceptional Director of Clinical Services to help us manage our expanding services, lead the clinical effectiveness of our work, and ensure we continue to deliver safe, high-quality care at every centre.

About The Role

This pivotal role will lead Fundraising, Communications, and Advocacy, working with the CEO, ELT, and Head of Fundraising to drive growth and secure the Charity’s long-term sustainability. For the first time, these functions will sit under one directorate, with strategies developed across all areas.

The Director of Fundraising and External Affairs will lead a high-performing team of ten, embedding income generation as a priority across the organisation. Having raised £8m towards a £13m campaign target, a key focus will be sustaining this success beyond the appeal.

This highly strategic role works closely with the CEO and ELT on overall direction, while personally stewarding key supporter relationships.

Who We Are Looking For

We seek an experienced fundraising leader with a strong track record of leading teams to deliver results. You will bring deep expertise in high-value fundraising and a proven ability to drive growth in these areas. A keen interest in communications and advocacy is essential, recognizing their role in raising our profile and amplifying impact.

Working closely with the CEO, senior team, and Fundraising, Communications, and Advocacy team, you will shape an integrated external affairs strategy that aligns our brand, messaging, and policy influence with organisational goals. You will foster collaboration to build a cohesive function that strengthens our national voice and ensures our life-saving work reaches those who need it, sustainably.

Strategic thinking and excellent communication skills will be key, along with the ability to deputise for the CEO as part of the leadership team.

This is a unique opportunity for a highly skilled and passionate leader to make a significant contribution to an organisation with an ambitious vision. If you are looking for a role where you can drive organisational growth while supporting an important mission, we encourage you to apply.
