Job summary

HSB Technical Ltd is seeking a Director of Engineering in London to lead multi-site operations, drive LEAN improvements, and manage a circa £10m budget while developing a high‑performing team to keep ferries safe, compliant and operational.

You will ensure regulatory compliance, oversee maintenance systems, partner with suppliers, and provide regular reports to senior leadership to support strategic decisions and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Extensive technical knowledge, ideally within a transport or maritime environment.
• Proven leadership of large teams (up to 100+ across multiple sites).
• Budget management experience (circa £10m).

Responsibilities

• Promote and ensure a strong safety culture across all engineering activities.
• Oversee fleet performance, ensuring ferries are safe, compliant and operationally ready.
• Manage multi-site engineering operations, including dry docking facilities.

• Promote and ensurea strong safety culture across all engineering activities.

Qualifications and requirements for the Director Of Engineering

• Proven leadership experience managing large teams (up to 100+) across multiple locations.
• Demonstrable budget management experience (circa £10m).
• Strong supplier managementand stakeholder engagement skills.
• Proven track record in delivering projects on time and within budget.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
• Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
• Ability toperform effectively under pressure.
• Flexible approach with willingness to support out-of-hours operations where required.
