The Middle Market (‘MM’) Direct Lending team handles origination and execution of MM LBOs with financial sponsors, collaborating with coverage teams and supported by the Leveraged Finance platform.

Main Purpose of the Role
  • Originate and execute Private Equity sponsor-driven Middle Market transactions in line with our sponsor framework, size, and geographic focus.
  • Serve as deal captain to structure and execute Term Loans and Unitranche facilities supporting LBO transactions.
Key Responsibilities
  • Drive profitable deal flow from the PE MidMarket community in EMEA.
  • Leverage a strong network of PE relationships to generate business across MMDL and other products, especially in the UK.
  • Collaborate with PE Sponsor Coverage to identify potential clients not currently served.
  • Lead deal execution ensuring high-quality delivery, risk management, and client satisfaction.
  • Negotiate terms and documentation for leveraged finance transactions, working with Leveraged Capital Markets when relevant.
  • Maintain fiduciary responsibility for risk management of assets, partnering with LF Portfolio Management, and seek revenue and cross-selling opportunities.
  • Work with internal teams such as credit, sponsor coverage, leveraged capital markets, and compliance to support the bank's strategic goals.
  • Support leadership in developing junior team members.
Work Experience
  • Minimum ten years’ experience in sponsor-backed leveraged finance transactions in lead roles within the UK Middle Market.
  • Strong network and deal sourcing ability in the UK Middle Market (EBITDA £20-50m).
  • Experience in banking or debt fund environments.
Skills and Experience

Technical Skills:

  • Proven experience in leveraged finance/direct lending in the UK.
  • Expertise in credit analysis, cash flow modeling, and documentation negotiation.
  • Existing relationships with UK private equity and capital markets teams.
  • Excellent presentation and negotiation skills.
