Job summary

Elsevier, a global information and analytics leader, seeks a Director of Engineering Practices to elevate architecture standards and engineering practices across the SDLC. You will collaborate with engineering leadership, architects, and product teams to improve consistency, quality, and efficiency at scale.

You will translate decisions into actionable tooling and guardrails, lead AI-enabled development efforts, and drive adoption of internal platforms and reusable components across product

Qualifications

• Solid knowledge of architectural and software development methodologies.
• Strong understanding of modern software engineering practices and AI-assisted development.
• Ability to translate technical findings into clear recommendations for engineering leadership.
• Demonstrated ability to implement technical direction and standards across product lines and teams.
• Familiarity with architectural design and governance practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical implementation of practices, processes, workflows, and tooling to improve product development.
• Own translation of architecture standards and guardrails into actionable artifacts and workflows.
• Build and maintain tooling that surfaces architectural and quality risks across the SDLC.
• Stay hands-on with tools and AI coding capabilities, review code, prototyping, and pull requests.
• Help teams solve complex technical problems to drive cost-efficient solutions.
• Own the technical implementation of decisions by the Architecture Board across the SDLC.
• Drive adoption of internal engineering platforms, developer tooling, and reusable components.
• Identify and evaluate emerging technologies to inform standards and pilot improvements.
