Job summary

Elsevier’s SciVal team seeks an Engineering Director to lead multiple engineering squads delivering a scalable, secure, data-intensive analytics platform. You will partner with Product, Data, Architecture, Security and UX to shape technology roadmaps and to enable AI-assisted and agent-ready experiences for customers.

You will hire and develop engineering leaders, drive technical strategy, and ensure delivery excellence across frontend, backend and data engineering across geographies.

Qualifications

• Experience leading multiple engineering managers and distributed teams across geographies.
• Proven track record delivering large-scale, data-intensive software products.
• Experience setting technical strategy and delivering roadmaps.
• Experience introducing AI-assisted development practices.
• Excellent communication, planning and stakeholder-management skills.
• Experience with data ingestion, transformation, indexing and query optimisation.

Responsibilities

• Lead SciVal’s engineering strategy and technical direction with cross-functional partners.
• Define architectural standards across search, data, analytics and APIs.
• Balance excellence, innovation, cost efficiency and delivery.
• Lead distributed teams across frontend, backend, data and quality engineering.
• Hire, coach and develop engineers and technical leaders.
• Own workforce planning, performance management and resource allocation.
• Drive planning, prioritisation and execution across multiple teams.
• Maintain code quality, testing, releases, observability and security.
