Job Description:

JOB TITLE: Director, Africa Agriculture and Trade Investment Fund (“AATIF” or the “Fund”)

FUND: Africa Agriculture and Trade Investment Fund (“AATIF”)

MAIN PURPOSE:

The Director will join the Fund Team at Cygnum Capital that advises the Africa Agriculture and Trade Investment Fund (AATIF). The Consultant will report directly to the Fund Lead of AATIF. Through his/her role, the Director will foster growth in the asset management (“AM”) activities of Cygnum Capital Group (hereafter “Cygnum Capital” or the “Firm”).

The role will require a common understanding with the Firm’s senior management around Cygnum Capital’s business objectives and presumes a readiness to collaborate with peers, and to delegate responsibility to other team members, if in the better interests of the Firm.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Asset Management

Investment Origination & Analysis & Fund Management:

  • Identify, approach, and establish relationships with key target investment companies in East and Southern Africa for AATIF, aiming to invest AATIF's capital in line with its targets;
  • Manage existing positions of the Fund, including periodic portfolio reviews;
  • Conduct credit and financial analysis of companies and sectors covered by the Fund;
  • Handle deal pipeline responsibilities, including screening opportunities, preparing concept notes, presenting to Investment Committees, conducting due diligence, and executing investments with deal teams;
  • Liaise with third parties involved in transactions, such as co-lenders, equity investors, and external service providers;
  • Coordinate with the Firm’s Fund Operations Team to ensure proper data capture for reporting;
  • Contribute to monitoring reports, credit papers, accounts, and financial statements;
  • Support marketing efforts for potential investors;
  • Collaborate across teams to improve efficiency and communication, creating templates, standards, and tools.

Deal Execution:

  • Perform due diligence, KYC checks, structuring, approvals, documentation, and closing of investments in collaboration with team members and external advisors;

Business Development:

  • Support AATIF’s business development efforts in East and Southern Africa;
  • Enhance the Firm’s AM marketing materials;
  • Engage with other fund investment teams, respecting confidentiality and “Chinese Wall” policies;
  • Address potential conflicts of interest and explore cross-divisional opportunities;
  • Represent Cygnum Capital externally, promoting its capabilities and networks.

  • Promote internal communication;
  • Balance work and life responsibilities;

CONDUCT RULES:

Adhere to FCA conduct rules, including acting with integrity, skill, transparency, fairness, and market standards.

FIT AND PROPER REQUIREMENT:

The Director must remain fit and proper, notifying the Firm of any relevant events affecting honesty, integrity, competence, or financial soundness.

PROFILE OF CANDIDATE:

Strong expertise in agricultural finance, debt structuring, and execution, especially in East and Southern Africa, with a robust network among agribusinesses and financial institutions; academic background in finance, economics, or related fields; 7+ years of relevant professional experience; fluent in English; capable of independent and team work; willing to travel; committed to sustainable agriculture and impactful investments.
