Job summary

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is seeking a dedicated support worker to help a resident in Hornsea access community activities on a fortnightly basis. The role focuses on promoting independence, building confidence, and encouraging participation in social and recreational events.

The position requires the successful candidate to have their own vehicle with business insurance, be proactive, patient, and capable of working independently. DBS and reference checks will be completed by the council.

Job description

This is an external vacancy and is not employment with East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

The individual resides in the Hornsea area and requires a dedicated and suitable person to provide support accessing the community once a fortnight. The individual is autistic and has ADHD.

The individual enjoys a range of recreational and social activities and would benefit from support to access these within the community.

About the role

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Supporting the individual to access the community and participate in activities of their choosing.
• Promoting independence and encouraging participation in social and recreational activities.

Hours

7 hours per fortnight, usually on a Saturday. This may be changed to weekdays during holiday periods.

The days worked are flexible. Two Saturdays can be worked consecutively if required, with the following two Saturdays not worked.

Mileage incurred whilst carrying out duties will be reimbursed.

About the candidate

The suitable candidate must:

• Be motivated, proactive and able to work on their own initiative.
• Be patient, caring and understanding.
• Have good communication skills.
• Be able to build a positive relationship with the individual to encourage and support their participation in activities.
• Have access to their own vehicle to transport the individual to activities. Business insurance is required.

DBS and reference checks will be required for this post. The cost will be met by the local authority.

The Direct Payments Support Service is an in-house service provided by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council. The service promotes independent choice and inclusion, allowing our service users to employ their own care and support as needed. We support many individuals with varying abilities, assisting with advertising and recruitment for a range of roles including support workers, carers and personal assistants.

Some travel across East Riding of Yorkshire may be required, applicants must be able to transport themselves.
