Job description

A career without limits

As the nation’s flag carrier, we take great pride in connecting Britain with the world and the world with Britain.

It’s something we’ve been doing for over 100 years, ever since we launched the world’s first international scheduled air service between London and Paris.

This originality has been in our blood since day one. It’s the spirit we share with the people that fly with us, our partners, and our colleagues.

So, whether you are a reassuring voice on the end of a phone, a smile at the door, under a wing keeping the turbines spinning or landing us gently in far-flung places, a job at British Airways is yours to make.

We know great things can happen when you’re inspired to think big and bring your ambition to work every day, which is why, at British Airways the sky is never the limit.

The role:

Digital & Technology Portfolio Manager

You’ll be part of Operations Delivery Intelligence within the Operations directorate, overseeing the technology strategy, delivery and governance of a portfolio of products and systems. This area plays an important role in ensuring the airline’s technology estate remains secure, scalable and reliable, while supporting investment in new solutions that improve operational performance and customer outcomes.

What you’ll do:
  • Build trusted relationships with senior business and Digital stakeholders, acting as a strategic technology adviser
  • Translate product and business priorities into a technology agenda that delivers value, resilience and positive customer outcomes
  • Advise on technical feasibility, risks and trade-offs to inform product and supplier decisions
  • Partner with Product Managers to build and maintain product roadmaps, balancing business, technology, security and resilience priorities
  • Manage supplier relationships and performance, including contracts, service levels and commercial obligations
  • Lead technology cost-planning activity and support the development of technology business cases
  • Lead technology investment prioritisation across change, maintenance, security and regulatory commitments
  • Ensure technology risks, issues and technical debt are identified, assessed and managed
  • Lead or support technology workstreams within cross-business programmes and transformation initiatives
  • Act as the link between the business, BA Digital and suppliers, ensuring compliance with technology standards and governance
  • Develop team capability through coaching, mentoring and succession planning
What you’ll bring to British Airways:
  • Strong technology delivery leadership across complex, multi-supplier environments
  • Strong supplier and commercial management capability, including service levels and third-party governance
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms, modern technology architectures and enterprise delivery practices
  • Strong understanding of technology risk, cyber security, resilience and compliance principles
  • Ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously, with strong prioritisation and decision-making skills
  • Experience developing technology roadmaps and translating business and Digital priorities into technology investment plans
  • Ability to balance cost, value and risk, helping stakeholders make informed technology and investment decisions
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence senior business and technology stakeholders and suppliers
  • Experience managing technology budgets, forecasts and investment business cases
  • Proficiency in technology planning, governance and reporting tools, including Jira, Confluence, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, particularly when resolving technical delivery challenges
  • Proactive and positive approach, with a strong focus on solving problems and delivering outcomes
  • Clear and articulate communication skills
  • Calm and resilient approach under pressure
  • Collaborative, flexible and action-oriented working style
  • Strong ownership and accountability for successful business and technology outcomes
  • Commitment to developing others through coaching, mentoring and knowledge sharing
Your experience:
  • 15+ years’ experience delivering complex, multi-technology programmes
  • Experience gained within a top-tier technology consulting firm, including a Big Four organisation
  • Proven track record of managing and completing multiple programmes simultaneously, delivering on time, within budget and with the expected impact
  • Master’s-level qualification in a technical field or equivalent industry experience
  • Degree in a related technical discipline such as Engineering, Information Systems or Computer Science is advantageous
  • Experience working in regulated or operationally critical industries, such as aviation or transport, is advantageous
