Job description

Location: Leeds / Hybrid (3 days onsite, 2 days remote)

Hours: Full-time (36 hours/week), Permanent

Are you a creative digital leader with a passion for storytelling and audience engagement? The Royal Armouries Museum is looking for a Digital Manager to help shape the future of how we present our national collection online and in-gallery.

This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in one of the UK’s most important museums, leading a talented digital team and producing compelling content that educates, inspires, and connects with a diverse audience.

About the Role

As Digital Manager, you’ll oversee the development and delivery of innovative, high-quality digital experiences across multiple platforms — including our website, galleries, and social channels. From digital trails and videos to long-form storytelling and podcasts, you’ll lead projects that bring the Royal Armouries’ stories to life in fresh, accessible ways.

Working closely with the Digital Programme Manager and cross-departmental teams, you’ll champion user-centred design, accessibility, and digital best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead digital content creation across the Royal Armouries’ sites and platforms
  • Manage and support a team of digital specialists
  • Oversee the Royal Armouries website and develop new digital products Collaborate with marketing, exhibitions, and learning teams
  • Monitor and report on digital performance and user engagement
  • Support wider staff with digital training and best practice
  • Manage budgets and deputise for the Digital Programme Manager as needed

What We’re Looking For:

  • A skilled digital content producer with experience in video, web, or multimedia
  • Strong understanding of accessibility (WCAG 2.2 AA), UX, and inclusive design Leadership experience, with excellent project management and communication skills
  • Familiarity with tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, content management systems, and digital analytics platforms
  • A passion for storytelling and public engagement, ideally with experience in the arts, cultural, or heritage sector

Desirable

Experience:

  • Knowledge of Drupal, DAM systems, GA4, SEO, or HTML/CSS
  • Background in museums or public-facing cultural institutions
  • Understanding of GDPR and copyright for digital content
