Job Description
Job Title - Digital Forensics - Team Leader(s) - Mobile or PC
Location - Birmingham City Centre
** Due to the nature of the role, all applicants will hold current SC (Security Clearance) to be considered **
Job Purpose
To undertake operational tasks such as the analysis of a wide range of digital devices supplied for forensic examination. Produce written reports and statements relating to this work for possible presentation in court. Manage and support their team of digital investigators to meet DFIR and operational targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide written estimates to both the prosecution and defence for the forensic examination of digital equipment.
- Develop examination strategies on a case-by-case basis to prepare outline summaries of proposed work programmes to agreed costs.
- Organise your own day-to-day casework activities to ensure that cases are carried out efficiently, to the required standards and cost, in accordance with good work practice and quality systems.
- To work in accordance with best scientific and commercial practice to deliver, often complex, computer/mobile devices investigation related projects on time, within budget and to the appropriate quality.
- Attend customer premises to advise and assist in seizure of equipment and on-site acquisitions.
- Oversee Research and Development work completed by other members of the team.
- Produce appropriate reports and delivery of expert evidence on findings.
- Review of colleague's reports/statements to ensure quality and maintain standards.
- Handle exhibits in accordance with evidential rules and technological safeguards to ensure the integrity of each case.
- Buddy or mentor junior members of staff.
- Provide accurate and understandable briefing/customer presentations.
- Liaise with customers to keep them informed of case progression.
- Review and stay updated on relevant technological advancements.
- Identify areas for process or role improvement that could positively impact quality and effectiveness.

- Provide weekly reports on operational activity, team performance, and absences.
- Support team members to maintain DFIR quality standards and provide technical assistance as needed.
- Conduct One-2-One meetings with team members.
- Provide training to enhance operational effectiveness and customer satisfaction.
- Understand and uphold Quality standards in DFIR and assist with nonconformance investigations.
- Conduct and develop DFIR validation testing and risk assessments.
- Review and approve QMS documentation.
- Ensure timely completion of competency skills and induction processes for new team members.
- Ensure adherence to DFIR procedures regarding unvalidated and unaccredited methods.
Knowledge, experience, and technical skills
- Experienced Computer/Mobile Senior Investigator
- Educated to degree level or equivalent with recognized qualifications in computer science or forensic investigation.
- Proven track record in forensic computer investigation, including initial imaging, analysis, and courtroom testimony as an Expert.
- Good knowledge of various operating systems and forensic software tools.
- Experience working in a forensic environment adhering to high ethical standards.
- Good understanding of UK legislation.
- Excellent report writing skills.
- Knowledge of court procedures, expert witness etiquette, disclosure, and continuity.
- Knowledge of FSR Code of Practice, ISO 17025, and ILAC G19.
