Boeing Defence United Kingdom Limited (BDUK) seeks a Digital Director to lead all Digital programmes, including MOD Information Services and Collective Training, from its Bristol headquarters. The role reports to the Managing Director and drives strategic direction, programme execution, and a single point of accountability for UK Digital services.

Digital Director - Boeing Defence UK Company:

Boeing Defence United Kingdom Limited Boeing Defence UK (BDUK) is hiring for a Digital Director. This role is responsible for leading all Digital programmes including MOD Information Services and Collective Training. This role also has direct leadership accountability for the Digital Services function supporting these programmes. This position is based out of the Bristol headquarters and will report to the Managing Director, BDUK.

Position Responsibilities:

Strategic direction and vision: Developing an integrated strategy, vision and mission for the BDUK Digital Business which currently includes the Bridging the Gap (BtG) and Collective Training (CT) programmes. Setting out direction for BDUK competing for future BMfS, and CT and Digital contracts with MOD.

Operates from unclassified to the highest level of national security classification in both UK and overseas.

Programme Leadership: Leading the development and execution of Digital programmes through Digital senior leadership team. Responsible for profit and loss and continuous cost/productivity improvement of support processes. Leadership experience with ability to engage on complex fixed price development acquisition programs such as Gladiator.

Customer intimacy / management: Provide one face and voice to the UK customer and establish a single point of accountability for Boeing UK Digital in service support capability. Customer interaction is typically with up to 3* MOD. Stakeholder group includes Government ministers, senior civil servants, and senior military officers – Defence CIO, Fin Mil Cap, Chief of Defence Logistics, Chief of Materiel.

People leadership: Providing leadership to the Digital programme managers and the digital function made up of c 200 IT coded personnel supporting digital programmes (direct reporting into this role) and a large extended matrix across functions within and beyond BDUK (and UK) supervisory structure.

Subcontractor management: Director Digital will interact with subcontractors at the Senior Managing Director level.

Business leader and business development: Capitalise on in-country business opportunities and assist BDUK in strengthening Boeing position as a UK company. Sustainment and growth of UK business through effective deployment of strategy, international supplier partnerships and relationships with senior international customers.

Matrix leadership: Accountability for the overall delivery of Digital programmes through matrix structures (Engineering, Supply Chain primarily). Risk management: management of all risks for business areas including performance, customer satisfaction, compliance risk, reputation risk, safety.

Any other activities as directed by the Managing Director.

Accountabilities:

Represent the Digital programme function for performance to BDUK LRBP and value for money to its internal and external customers, suppliers and industry associations. Supporting interface with Senior Military & MoD Civil Servants. Represents Boeing on various industry forums. Represent Boeing with Suppliers.
o UK Ministry of Defence: Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S).
o Director General Delivery.
o Director General Gateway.
o Director Logistics Services.
o Front Line Commands.
o Logistics Services Senior Responsible Owner.
Internal relationships: Key leadership role as part of BDUK Leadership Team. Collaborates with BDUK Managing Director. Participate in drumbeat meetings and improvement initiatives. Lead elements of BDUK Strategic Business Council, Business Performance Review, Executive Programme Reviews, offsites and other internal meetings. Senior stakeholder interface up to VP level (internationally).

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Experience in managing a complex business environment across digital domain.
  • Experience in building and executing specific growth strategies for major campaigns across multiple areas of the business and different domains.
  • Customer management experience to achieve win-win business outcomes in a complex environment with many complex business challenges and potential disputes, minimizing risk to the business.
  • Leadership and Program Management experience required to coach and guide senior Program Managers to achieve business outcomes across different disciplines.
  • The ability to manage risk and achieve business outcomes across a diverse portfolio of programs.
  • Technical experience across multiple domains and the ability to synthesize technical issues to solve business issues.
  • Ability to obtain UK Security Clearance.

  • Interpersonal influence: drive business commitments and outcomes from the BU, without having ownership of direct P&L in non-US markets through collaboration and influencing skills.
  • Adaptability: highly adaptive and flexible to ambiguity.
  • Cross-functional knowledge: Strong understanding of and experience with compliance and support function capabilities to ensure integrated functional support is provided to local operations.
