Job description

The Rosalind Franklin Institute (the Franklin) is a technology institute established by the UK Government as a unique centre committed to advancing tools that are needed to transform healthcare in the future. Through a unique integration of disciplines, we will develop disruptive new technologies designed to tackle major challenges in health and life science. This will accelerate the discovery of new treatments for chronic diseases affecting millions of people around the world.

Our Science Strategy seeks to focus the Franklin’s research and unite our researchers around our Technology Innovation Challenges and Life Science Challenges. For more information on the Franklin’s Challenges click here.

We are currently looking to appoint a Digital Communications Coordinator to support our Strategic Marketing Team for a period of 12 months due to maternity leave. Reporting to the Communications Manager, you will work closely with researchers to share the Franklin’s science with relevant stakeholders. In this role, you will gain experience in a range of activities with your core responsibilities outlined below.

We operate a hybrid working model, with a minimum of three days in the office based at Harwell Science and Innovation Campus near Oxford, UK. Flexibility can be given to different working patterns i.e. condensed hours or around start and finish times.

The proposed start date for this vacancy is early November 2026.

Key Responsibilities

As a Digital Communications Coordinator you will:

  • *Build strong relationships with operations and science colleagues, building stories and ideas for campaigns from our research.
  • *Create and manage high-quality, audience-focused content across digital channels, particularly LinkedIn and the website.
  • *Lead on social media planning and delivery, including supporting colleagues and research teams to engage effectively online.
  • *Monitor and analyse digital performance, using insights to improve content, campaigns and audience reach.
  • *Support the planning, promotion, delivery and on-the-day support for webinars and events (online and in-person).
  • *Maintain and develop website content (WordPress), ensuring it remains current, accessible and aligned with organisational priorities.
  • *Manage internal and external newsletters (Sharepoint, Campaign Monitor).
  • *Manage the Franklin’s image library.
  • *Keep up to date with digital trends and best practice to continuously improve our approach.

This job description sets out the skills and experience we believe are needed to be able to do this job but, research also tells us women are much more likely than men to take this list of requirements as absolute and self-select out of the process. If you think you can deliver this role then we want to hear from you, regardless of the boxes you did not tick.

In return we offer:
  • * 25 days holidays plus bank holidays and Christmas holiday shutdown
  • * Generous pension scheme (employer’s contribution currently up to 18%)
  • * Group Life Assurance (also known as Group Life Insurance or Death in Service)
  • * Buying and Selling Annual Leave
  • * Workplace Nursery Salary Sacrifice Scheme
  • * Hub building with state-of-the-art laboratories
  • * Hybrid and flexible working
  • * Training and development opportunities for staff at all levels
  • * Bus pass discount scheme and good transport links to Oxford and surrounding areas
  • * Cycle to Work Scheme
  • * Access to employee discount platform (Perkbox)
  • * Occupational Health and wellbeing support including Employee Assistance (24/7 support and counselling)
  • * Health Cash Plan
  • * Subsidised canteen and food outlets on campus
  • * Free on-site parking
  • * Campus location in beautiful countryside with social and sports clubs open to staff
