Job Overview

This internal secondment is an exciting opportunity for a registered healthcare professional to join the dynamic multi-disciplinary Digital Clinical Specialist Team at North Bristol and contribute towards the improvement of patient safety and staff experience through the development of our electronic patient health record.

The successful candidate will join our Inpatient Noting Workstream and support the digitisation of core medical notes. Confidence in working with our electronic patient record and other digital systems, and experience in working clinically along our inpatient pathways are essential attributes, alongside enthusiasm, change management skills and excellent communication and influencing skills. Full training will be given for the specialist aspects of this role.

Main duties of the job

In response to the Bristol NHS Joint Clinical Strategy, North Bristol NHS Trust’s digital strategy and national priorities, the digitisation of clinical workflows and practices continues including the development of our Electronic Patient Record in our CareFlow system.

The role of the Clinical Digital Specialist is pivotal to this objective, working with front line clinicians to gather clinical requirements, working with systems experts and developers to design processes and digital forms, and then testing and piloting outputs and supporting front line teams with deployment and adoption.

Nursing and AHP records are now largely digital, and IM&T have received funding for a secondment to work within the Inpatient Noting workstream, focussing particularly on medical documentation until 31st March 2026.

The successful applicant will have considerable experience of working as a registered healthcare professional in inpatient clinical settings, and a vision and commitment to improving patient care and staff experience through digital solutions. They will work within an experienced team and full training and support will be given.

Essential criteria

  • Current Professional Health Registration
  • Considerable Experience of working clinically in Inpatient Pathways
  • Clinical process knowledge and experience of IT systems across the Trust
  • Understanding of how digital technology can be used to improve patient safety and staff efficiency and experience

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of initiating and successful delivery of change or service improvement
  • Influencing skills: able to persuade clinicians to engage with, implement and embed change to achieve successful outcomes
