Job description
Overview

The post covers a variety of both inpatient and outpatient work, as well as health promotion activities and education and training responsibilities for other health care professionals. You will liaise with the wider integrated team across community and acute settings and be an active member of the MDT within the acute trust. There is opportunity for CPD between Liverpool Women's Hospital (LWH) & Liverpool University Hospitals. The role includes regular audit and development projects and student training. The department commits to teaching with regular sessions across Liverpool Women’s Hospital. The candidate should be proactive, patient-centred, and open to service innovation. You will receive structured supervision, CPD opportunities, and the chance to work in an experienced dietetic team that values collaboration, learning, and professional growth.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the delivery of Nutrition and Dietetic service across Liverpool Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
  • Undertake nutritional assessment and calculate nutritional requirements for referred in-patients, considering medical, social and cultural factors.
  • Assist in provision of service to more specialist clinical areas under supervision of a specialist dietitian as part of training and CPD.
  • Provide nutrition and dietary advice that is evidence-based and appropriate to the patient’s medical, social and cultural context.
  • Negotiate dietary changes with patients to help them achieve targets.
  • Monitor and review nutritional care plans against outcome measures and adjust as needed to meet goals.
  • Undertake defined outpatient clinics with support from a supervising Dietitian when needed.
  • Assist in developing educational resources with a clear evidence-base that are acceptable to users and carers.
  • Accurately record all assessments and interventions in medical notes, nursing documentation and dietetic record cards; communicate in writing with other agencies (e.g., GPs, community dietitians).
  • Ensure safe and timely discharge of patients on home enteral feeding, liaising with appropriate internal and external agencies.
  • Deliver defined patient group sessions to facilitate lifestyle changes, including planning, delivery and evaluation of sessions with clear, consistent, evidence-based advice.
  • Assist in delivering formal and informal training to other health care professionals and staff (including pre- and post-registration training for nurses).
  • Advise pharmacy and senior dietitians regarding stock levels of nutritional products at ward level.
  • Assist in the clinical supervision of student dietitians, including planning of the programme during weeks of responsibility.
  • Communicate and liaise with other agencies (e.g., MDT members, catering, pharmacy, community dietitians).
  • Record and submit clinical and professional activity using manual and electronic means according to departmental standards.
  • Attend and contribute to department meetings as required.
  • Contribute to the Trust and Department Clinical Governance agenda by attending governance meetings, undertaking audit projects, engaging in CPD and the trust appraisal system.
  • Contribute to and comment on Departmental Policies related to nutrition and dietetics and contribute to patient safety through clinical incident reporting; monitor and maintain health, safety and security of self and others.
  • Act in ways that support equality and diversity.
Qualifications
  • BSc in Nutrition and Dietetics or postgraduate Diploma.
  • Current or pending registration with HCPC.
  • Membership of BDA or equivalent professional indemnity.
  • Time management – able to prioritise work, respond to demands and keep to time in outpatient settings.
  • Clinical placement conducted within both acute teaching and primary care environments (desirable).
