Job description

Band 5 Rotational Dietitian Role

The Band 5 rotational role offers experience across various settings supported by UHCW Dietitians, including placements within any of the services provided by UHCW.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Providing a professional dietetic service for adults and paediatrics in general medical and surgical inpatient wards, outpatient clinics, and the community at UHCW.
  2. Assessing and treating patients/clients, maintaining records, with support from senior colleagues as needed.
  3. Liaising with dietetic colleagues and other hospital staff such as medical, nursing, catering, and other health professionals.

Role Overview

As a valued member of the Dietetic & SLT Department, the post holder will support the patient journey through a variety of activities, adhering to clinical protocols and guidelines.

Clinical Responsibilities
  • Working autonomously to provide dietetic advice to adult and paediatric patients, their carers, and staff, across inpatient, outpatient, and community settings.
  • Carrying out nutritional assessments, including biochemistry interpretation, anthropometrics, clinical condition, and diet history analysis.
  • Developing treatment plans, calculating nutritional requirements, analyzing intakes (sometimes using specialist IT systems), setting client-centered goals, and planning discharges (including patients on artificial nutritional support).
  • Prescribing dietary treatments and ACBS products where guidelines are limited.
  • Facilitating group sessions to enhance patient knowledge and support behavior change.
  • Providing dietetic advice, treatment, and dietary counseling across various conditions and settings, with clinical competence and support from senior colleagues when necessary.
