Job summary

Group1 Automotive in Manchester is seeking a Diagnostic Technician (Mechanic) to join the Volkswagen Van Centre team. You will perform high-quality maintenance and repairs, following manufacturer standards to ensure safety and reliability, and provide clear technical advice to customers.

You'll inspect components, collaborate with reception and workshop control, mentor peers, and benefit from a range of employee benefits while working in a supportive, growth-oriented environment.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level3 in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair or equivalent qualification.
• Valid UK driving licence is required; MOT licence advantageous.
• Strong problem-solving and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Perform high-quality maintenance and repairs following manufacturer standards.
• Inspect vehicle components for wear or needed replacements.
• Provide expert technical advice to customers when needed.
• Maintain excellent customer service and fostering trust.
• Collaborate with service reception and workshop control for smooth workflow.
• Mentor other technicians in the workshop.

Basic salary £36,064 and £60,000 OTE (uncapped earnings). Experienced technicians are eligible for welcome bonuses totalling £2,500*.

What you’ll do day to day

• Perform high-quality vehicle maintenance and repairs, following manufacturer standards and guidelines to ensure reliability and safety.
• Conduct thorough inspections of vehicle components to assess wear, damage, or required replacements.
• Provide expert technical advice to customers when necessary, ensuring clear and professional communication.
• Maintain exceptional customer service standards, fostering trust that leads to repeat business and referrals.
• Collaborate effectively with the service reception team and workshop control for seamless workflow and customer satisfaction.
• Offer support and guidance to fellow technicians in the workshop, promoting teamwork and knowledge sharing.

Helpful skills and qualifications

• NVQ Level3 in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair or equivalent qualification.
• Thorough understanding of vehicle safety standards and guidelines.
• Strong problem-solving skills, ensuring accuracy in all aspects of work.
• Proven ability to meet efficiency targets while maintaining a keen eye for detail.
• Ability to collaborate and contribute positively within a team environment.
• A current valid MOT licence is advantageous but not essential.
• Must hold a valid UK driving licence.
