Focusing on supporting NICE guidelines, you will work both in the out-patient clinics and in-patient setting on the wards, working at an advanced level alongside Consultant colleagues in Diabetes, Vascular and Orthopaedic services. Part of your role will involve further developing the in-patient podiatry service, in particular the service to our two diabetes wards.

Currently we undertake four consultant led Diabetic Foot Clinics weekly within the Centre, together with weekly multi-disciplinary ward rounds and virtual MDT clinical meetings.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate relevant post graduate knowledge of the diabetic foot ideally at MSc or equivalent level, together with at least 3 years’ experience in the management of the high risk patient and acute wound management, in either the acute or community setting.

To work as part of the multidisciplinary diabetes foot team providing clinical specialist treatment and advice to a clinically high-risk case load.

To provide the necessary specialised knowledge and skills in the assessment, diagnosis and management of patients presenting with diabetic problems of the lower limb and foot.

To provide advice, support and training to colleagues in podiatry, the wider Trust MDT, our primary care partners and students in relation to foot related complications.

To assess and refer for clearly planned podiatric care packages for patients with a variety of care needs, with the aim of maintaining maximum independence and mobility, co-ordinating a seamless model of foot care from the multi-disciplinary diabetes team to community health services.

To liaise closely with relevant professionals for the arrangement of immediate treatment/intervention and for the referral of patients to other members of the wider MDT.

You will need to be a dynamic and highly motivated individual, possessing excellent clinical, organisational and IT skills. An ability to communicate effectively with other healthcare professionals is essential as is the ability to work well within a team.

Consideration will be given to current Band 6 clinicians who can demonstrate the required experience.
