Main Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Clinical Practice: Provide expert assessment, monitoring, and management of diabetes for inpatients across all wards. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize glycaemic control and manage emergencies like DKA and hypoglycaemia. Support patient education and self-management.
  2. Education & Training: Deliver training to ward staff on diabetes management and support patient education regarding diabetes care and discharge planning.
  3. Leadership & Service Development: Contribute to planning and improving inpatient diabetes services. Participate in audits, quality initiatives, and policy development. Act as a clinical leader and role model.
  4. Communication & Documentation: Maintain accurate patient records and communicate effectively with the team and external agencies involved in patient care.
Additional Information

This role is for 2 days a week (office hours, Monday to Friday). Ward experience within an NHS setting, especially caring for individuals with diabetes, is essential. The role requires excellent communication skills, teamwork, and awareness of medical management of diabetes emergencies.

Qualifications and Experience: Registered nurse on the NMC register, degree or equivalent, post-registration qualification in the specialty, extensive post-registration experience in diabetes care, and knowledge of current NHS issues.

Desirable Skills: MSc Pathway registration, experience as a Practice Assessor, counselling or palliative care qualifications, IT training, and multidisciplinary team working.
