The North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust is a medium-sized acute and community trust with over 525 beds and over 600 community staff, serving more than 600,000 people living across Enfield and Haringey and the surrounding areas, including Barnet and Waltham Forest.

The hospital has been on its present site for over 100 years and was established as an NHS trust by statute in December 1990. The Trust’s services are provided on the North Middlesex University Hospital site as well as a range of community sites across the London Borough of Enfield, including at partner hospitals. They provide services in collaboration with a range of partners, including local GPs, acute, mental health and other community health service providers across North Central London.

In the year ending 31 March 2022, the Trust reported a turnover of £419.7m and employed almost 4,000 staff. Job overview

We have an opportunity for a Diabetes Clinical Nurse specialists to join the Diabetes Team at North Middlesex University Hospital.

The Diabetes Specialist Nurse role is integral to working in partnership with both inpatient and outpatient services, to ensure a high quality, needs led service exists for diabetic patients treated within NMUH.

The post holder will provide a high standard of diabetes specialist intervention and education across a diverse and multicultural population.

This role is key in working in partnership with service users, other healthcare providers and professionals to plan, develop, implement and evaluate service developments and diabetes interventions based on current evidence based guidelines and policies, which respond to local need, Trust strategic objectives, government initiatives and national policies.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have excellent working knowledge of how to manage both outpatient and inpatients with Diabetes whilst working collaboratively as a team to ensure all patients are seen and reviewed within the necessary timeframes and provided with outstanding care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Ensure that the needs of patients are placed at the center of care delivery, thus achieving trust and national standards for clinical quality, safety and patient experience.

To participate in and manage caseload of diabetes patients with the support of Clinical Nurse Specialists, Lead nurse and specialty Consultants and specialist registrars.

To run nurse led clinics independently with clinical guidance as needed for specialties

Provide appropriate and timely education and advice to patients on all treatment options available.

To act as a clinical expert role model in nursing care to other nurses with regards to Diabetes.

To develop advanced nursing practice in diabetes whilst being aware of personal and professional limitations.

To assist with cross cover of the Diabetes Specialist Nurses within own clinical competence.
