As part of Codan Limited, an international technology company with a long-standing reputation for delivering trusted communications solutions, DTC combines specialist engineering expertise with global resources to develop products that perform in some of the world’s most demanding operational environments.

Our technology enables the secure and reliable transmission of video, voice, and data. We work closely with customers and industry partners to address evolving operational challenges while meeting rigorous performance, quality, security, and regulatory standards.

Joining DTC offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals on advanced wireless communication technologies with a meaningful real-world impact. Employees benefit from the strength of a global organisation while contributing within a focused, agile, and collaborative engineering environment.

Role Summary

We are looking for a DevOps Team Lead with strong software testing experience to join our Engineering team in Whiteley, Hampshire.

This is a new, hands-on role offering the opportunity to establish and develop DTC’s DevOps team, initially leading two engineers, with potential scope for further growth as business needs develop.

Reporting to the Engineering Director, you will own the development infrastructure, source control workflows and CI/CD pipelines that support our software and embedded communications products. Alongside this, you will lead software test planning and automation, helping ensure that changes deliver the intended functionality and that existing features continue to perform reliably.

Working closely with software, systems and test engineers, you will help turn engineering requirements into repeatable tests, reliable builds and controlled releases. We welcome candidates from a range of software backgrounds. Experience with embedded systems or FPGA development would be beneficial, but is not essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish, lead and mentor a DevOps team, combining hands-on technical delivery with the development of team capability and effective working practices.
  • Own and maintain CI/CD pipelines, automating builds, testing and deployment to appropriate test environments.
  • Maintain reliable, repeatable build environments, including dependencies, engineer access and investigation of build or pipeline failures.
  • Develop automated nightly build and test processes, making results accessible and helping engineers identify and resolve issues.
  • Work with engineering teams from the start of projects to translate requirements into test plans, test cases and automated tests.
  • Lead functional, integration, system and regression testing to verify software behaviour and assess the impact of changes.
  • Maintain requirements traceability matrices linking engineering requirements to test coverage and results.
  • Manage Git workflows across multiple development and release branches, coordinating merges and ensuring fixes reach the appropriate releases.
  • Build and tag releases, maintain release artefacts and ensure build and test results are traceable to the relevant source and configuration.
  • Provide clear visibility of test progress, defects, technical risks and release readiness.
  • Continuously improve development workflows, test automation, infrastructure and release processes.
Required Skills and Experience
  • Strong hands‑on DevOps experience, including ownership of CI/CD pipelines, build automation and development infrastructure.
  • Strong software testing experience, with a practical understanding of functional, integration, system and regression testing.
  • Strong practical Git experience, including managing multiple active branches, merging changes, carrying fixes between releases and resolving conflicts.
  • Experience using Jenkins or a comparable CI/CD platform to automate build and test workflows.
  • Experience translating software or engineering requirements into test plans, test cases and traceable test evidence.
  • Practical experience developing and maintaining automated tests, scripts or test frameworks.
  • Experience supporting software releases and investigating build failures, test failures and software defects.
  • The ability to lead and coordinate a technical team while remaining actively involved in delivery.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to explain technical risks, test results and release readiness to different audiences.
  • Eligibility to obtain UK Security Check clearance.
Desirable Skills
  • Familiarity with SVN source control.
  • Experience with embedded software, FPGA development, electronics or hardware-integrated products.
  • Experience with software‑defined radios, wireless communications or networking technologies.
  • Experience with scripting or programming languages such as Python, C, C++ or MATLAB.
  • Knowledge of hardware‑in‑the‑loop, device‑level or RF testing.
  • Experience establishing a new team or improving existing DevOps and software testing practices.
  • Experience within defence, public safety, broadcast, or another highly regulated or mission‑critical environment.
Why join DTC
  • Work on advanced wireless communication technology used in demanding environments around the world.
  • Shape a new DevOps team and take ownership of the processes that support reliable software builds, testing and releases.
  • Collaborate with experienced specialists across a range of engineering disciplines.
  • Contribute to products that support defence, public safety, broadcast, and mission‑critical operations.
  • Benefit from flexible working, a strong benefits package, and ongoing professional development.
  • Join a focused and agile engineering business backed by the resources and international reach of the Codan Group.
