Job summary

IBM Consulting UK FutureNow is seeking a DevOps Engineer to design and support modern cloud platforms, build infrastructure as code, and enhance CI/CD pipelines across complex, security-conscious environments.

You will work with Docker, Kubernetes and various cloud services, embedding security and observability into every delivery. The role emphasizes automation, collaboration, and continuous learning within a flexible engineering culture.

Qualifications

• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using modern tools.
• Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code approaches (Terraform and/or CloudFormation).
• Experience with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Scripting/automation experience (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
• Experience with monitoring/observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Splunk, Datadog).
• Understanding of security principles across the software delivery lifecycle.
• Experience with Git-based source control and collaborative development.

Job description

As a DevOps Engineer, you will:

• Design, build and support modern cloud and platform solutions.
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform and CloudFormation.
• Build, improve and support CI/CD pipelines to enable secure and reliable software delivery.
• Implement and maintain containerised solutions using technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Embed DevSecOps principles throughout cloud infrastructure, applications and deployment pipelines.
• Implement monitoring, logging and observability solutions to improve service reliability and performance.
• Automate operational processes and reduce manual effort through scripting and tooling.
• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary delivery teams and client stakeholders.
• Contribute to technical best practice, continuous improvement and knowledge sharing across engineering teams.
• Support the delivery of solutions within highly regulated and security-conscious environments.

Experience

• Experience working in a DevOps, Platform Engineering, Cloud Engineering or similar role.
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as: GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps or similar technologies. Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code approaches, including Terraform and/or CloudFormation.
• Experience working with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Understanding of cloud platforms including AWS, Azure and/or Google Cloud.
• Experience scripting and automating tasks using Python, Bash, PowerShell or similar languages.
• Knowledge of monitoring, logging and observability tooling such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Splunk or Datadog.
• Understanding of security principles and how they apply throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
• Experience working with Git-based source control and collaborative development practices.
• Strong problem-solving, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Experience working within consulting, public sector or regulated environments would be advantageous.

Security Requirements This role is subject to successful completion of pre-employment screening in line with the UK Government Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). Depending on the client and assignment, additional National Security Vetting (NSV) may be required, including eligibility for Enhanced Security Check (eSC) or Enhanced Developed Vetting (eDV).
