Job summary

NEXT plc is offering a 12-month industrial placement in Leicestershire for students to gain hands-on experience with cloud migrations, IaC, CI/CD, and containerisation. You will work across Windows and Linux environments and learn the .NET stack while supporting migration projects from day one.

You will join a fast-paced, supportive team at our Leicestershire Head Office, with opportunities to develop both technical and professional skills during July 2027 to July 2028.

Qualifications

• Current degree with 12-month placement year (July 2027–July 2028) and strong academic record.
• On track for a 2:1 or higher, or MSc with placement year.
• Interest in cloud computing, CICD, containerisation and IaC.

Responsibilities

• Migrate platforms from on-prem to cloud environments using IaC.
• Configure and manage CI/CD pipelines with Azure DevOps.
• Work with Docker and Kubernetes to containerise applications.
• Collaborate with security and auditing teams on migration projects.

The role

Technology drives what we do at NEXT, and as a Tech Placement, you will be a vital part of our evolution. This role is designed to help you learn and grow by giving you hands-on experience and real responsibilities.

What you'll take on

You’ll play a key part in migrating our platforms from our own servers to the cloud. This will give you hands-on experience with a range of technologies, including Infrastructure-as-code to build and manage environments automatically and Azure DevOps for creating automated pipelines that build and release software. You’ll also work with Docker and Kubernetes to run applications in containers, and use PowerShell and other scripts to automate tasks.

You’ll also get to work with both Windows and Linux servers, as well as SQL databases. Additionally, you’ll learn how our applications are built using the .NET Framework and C#, gaining a solid understanding of the entire development lifecycle.

As a member of the team, you’ll help project teams use our cloud environments efficiently and collaborate with our brilliant in-house security and auditing teams. This is a great opportunity to make a real impact on our migration projects from day one.

This is a 12-month industrial placement and applicants must be studying a relevant University Degree course that includes a dedicated placement year July 2027 to July 2028.

About you:

• On track for a 2:1 or higher in a degree, or Master’s degree that includes a 12-month placement, covering cloud computing concepts (IaaS, PaaS and SaaS), CICD, Containerisation and IaC (Infrastructure as code)
• You’re self‑motivated and eager to learn, with a self‑motivated attitude to handle any new challenge.
