Job summary

The Earlham Institute in Norwich is seeking a DevOps Engineer to deploy and maintain Galaxy as part of the BioFAIR Methods Commons. You will develop APIs, automate testing, and integrate Galaxy with other services within the BioFAIR network.

The role is based in the Data Science group, with responsibilities spanning from cloud deployment to collaboration with international partners and the Galaxy community.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Bioinformatics, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • DevOps or system administration certifications.
  • Strong Linux administration and shell scripting.
  • Proficiency in Python and Vue.js.
  • Git-based workflows experience.
  • RESTful APIs knowledge.
  • Experience with Ansible or IaC tools.
  • Familiarity with the Galaxy platform.

Responsibilities

  • Configure, deploy, document, and maintain the production-grade national UK Galaxy service on the AWS cloud.
  • Develop software code and APIs to enhance Galaxy and integrate with other BioFAIR services.
  • Establish and manage CI/CD pipelines for Galaxy releases and changes.
  • Set up monitoring, logging, and alerting for high availability and usage stats.
  • Engage with the global Galaxy community to share practices and contribute to open source.
  • Other duties commensurate with the role as assigned by line manager.
