Job summary

Insight in Manchester is seeking an experienced Kubernetes platform engineer to design, build and operate scalable Kubernetes platforms (GKE/OpenShift), and to drive platform engineering patterns. You will develop reusable services with Backstage, automate cloud environments with Terraform, implement CI/CD pipelines with Harness and Jenkins, and establish observability with Dynatrace.

Collaborate across product, security, and operations to embed security, SRE practices, and golden path standards

Qualifications

• Hands-on Kubernetes engineering experience; GKE preferred, OpenShift required.
• Strong background in Google Cloud Platform, Terraform, and reusable infrastructure automation.
• Experience with CI/CD pipeline tools (Harness, Jenkins) and modern delivery engineering.
• Familiarity with Backstage and developer self-service/golden path concepts.
• Expertise in observability tools (Dynatrace), monitoring, alerting, and SRE practices.
• Solid understanding of security (HashiCorp Vault, IAM, certificate management, platform controls).
• Networking experience, especially with Istio Service Mesh and service/traffic management.
• Proficiency in GitHub/Git, scripting, automation, troubleshooting, and production support.

Responsibilities

Job description

Job Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate enterprise Kubernetes platforms (GKE and OpenShift), including full cluster lifecycle management, networking, ingress, and workload security.
• Develop reusable platform services and internal developer self-service capabilities using Backstage and Internal Developer Platform patterns.
• Create secure, repeatable cloud environments and reusable modules leveraging Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) best practices.
• Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines utilizing Harness and Jenkins; manage source control and collaboration via GitHub/Git.
• Implement end-to-end observability with Dynatrace, including the setup of metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, alerting, and service health monitoring.
• Define and track SLI/SLOs; automate operational runbooks, incident remediation, and repeatable support tasks to minimize manual effort.
• Engineer secure service-to-service connectivity using Istio Service Mesh; manage traffic, ingress/egress, and enforce policies.
• Manage secrets, certificates, and workload identities securely using HashiCorp Vault and automated certificate lifecycle management.
• Embed platform controls and security, including least-privilege access, secure configurations, resilience, and auditability in engineering processes.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product, engineering, architecture, security, and operations); coach team members and promote best platform practices and standards.

Requirements
