Job summary

Apex Fintech Solutions in Belfast seeks a DevOps Engineer to join the Tax and Cost Basis engineering team. You’ll design, build, and maintain automation that runs our batch processing platform across client environments, converting run-day scripts into parameterized deployment pipelines and workflows.

This role blends application and systems engineering to support new client implementations and run-day operations.

Qualifications

• 3+ years experience as a developer (Python, Java, shell, etc.).
• Hands-on experience building and operating orchestrated deployment pipelines and production workflows.
• Strong Python and shell scripting (bash) skills.
• Experience with cloud platforms, primarily AWS, and automating against them.
• Experience with Linux system administration and troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and managing versions and releases across multiple environments.
• Working knowledge of SQL and PostgreSQL.

Responsibilities

ABOUT THIS ROLE

Position Overview:
As a DevOps Engineer you will be a key member of the Apex Tax and Cost Basis engineering team, responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the automation that runs our batch processing platform across client environments. Your primary focus will be converting today's run-day and disaster recovery scripts into parameterized, orchestrated deployment pipelines and workflows, and building the deployment management tooling that tracks which version is running in each environment. This is a hybrid application engineering / systems engineering role: you will support new client implementations and custom scripts on the application side, and manage pipelines and run-day operations on the systems side. You will work closely with our development, TechOps, and cloud infrastructure teams to make the platform more sustainable and scalable.

Workflow Orchestration

Migrate existing run-day, disaster recovery, and operational scripts into orchestrated deployment pipelines and workflows. Design, build, and operate production workflows with clear dependencies, retries, and alerting.

Script Parameterization

Refactor runtime scripts so they are parameterized, reusable, and environment-agnostic, eliminating hardcoded per-client and per-environment values and the manual edits that come with them.

Deployment Management

Build and maintain tooling that tracks build versions across environments (development, QA, UAT, production) and automates deployment and promotion between them.

Client Implementations

Support new client onboarding by developing and adapting custom scripts, configuration, and automation on the application side.

Run-Day Operations

Manage processing pipelines and run-day operations. Troubleshoot batch failures, identify root cause, and replace repeat manual intervention with durable automated fixes.

Cloud Automation

Build and operate automation on Amazon Web Services (AWS) using native CLIs, SDKs, and infrastructure-as-code practices.

Monitoring and Notifications

Build alerting and notification automation (Slack, email) so failures and stalls surface before they affect clients.

Process Improvement

Think critically about existing processes and propose better solutions rather than maintaining the status quo. Drive improvements that make the platform more sustainable and scalable.

Documentation

Maintain comprehensive documentation of workflows, runbooks, deployment procedures, and automation standards.

Collaboration

Collaborate with development, TechOps, and infrastructure teams to streamline how work moves from code to production.
