Job description

The role of a Development Technician is to support in the development of new and existing products. They will work closely with other members of the formulation team to develop products and to increase their skills and knowledge. They will also work closely with the Scale Up team to help ensure a smooth transition from Lab to factory and achieve right first time manufacture. The role involves assisting in all aspects of the technical function, ensuring that strict quality standards are met and contributing to the process of Continuous Improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Working within the formulation team in our technical laboratory to help develop efficacious, commercially viable formulations, in accordance with product briefs.
• Prepare formulation batches, and submission paperwork, maintaining accurate records.
• Conduct testing on products to confirm they meet defined specification and performance criteria.
• Ensure formulations and mixing instructions are updated when necessary to capture best practice.
• Work alongside the scale up team to help ensure a smooth transition from Lab to Production.
• Support the scale up and QC teams with quality investigations as required.
• Ensure compliance to Health & Safety standards, GMP, GLP and ISO requirements.
• Contribute towards KPIs as indicated by line manager.
• Uphold the efficiency of the lab by maintaining stock of consumables and raw materials.
• Any other duties requested by the Technical Manager to support the smooth operation of the department.

Role Requirements

• Educated to N5 (or equivalent) in a scientific discipline.
• Be detail-oriented with accurate record keeping, project tracking and KPI measurement.
• Be capable of performing various Laboratory tests to evaluate the quality, stability and performance of cosmetic products.
• Ability to prioritise and multi-task to manage a busy workload with a solution focussed approach.
• The ability to interact with stakeholders in a strong, confident manner.
• Proficient in Excel, email, and the ability to use a technical database (training will be given).
• Knowledge of formulation types and ingredient roles is an advantage.
• Knowledge of manufacturing capabilities and limitations, and vessel types is an advantage.
