Job summary

The Open University’s Centre for Electronic Imaging (CEI) seeks a Detector Data Engineer to design and implement high-rate readout and data handling for CIS300 detectors. You will collaborate with detector scientists, electronics engineers and FPGA/software developers across CEI to translate requirements into robust data pipelines.

Responsibilities include developing readout software, supporting space mission calibration data, and interfacing with on-board processing.

Qualifications

  • BSc in Physics or engineering with strong academic record.
  • Experience in detector data readout, data acquisition or handling systems for imaging sensors.
  • Experience with HDR/read-up-the-ramp/non-destructive readout techniques.
  • Experience debugging detector/instrumentation issues with lab equipment.
  • Experience contributing to software/firmware releases via peer review.
  • Knowledge of on-board data processing and data compression techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Design data readout and output for CIS300 detectors, including HDR/readout modes.
  • Interface detector modes with on-board data processing systems and define data formats.
  • Develop and maintain software/firmware for detector data acquisition and analysis.
  • Support calibration data management for space missions (e.g., SMILE).
  • Collaborate with CEI project teams to meet programmatic timelines.
  • Attend project meetings and report progress; liaise with external collaborators.
  • Promote knowledge exchange with Teledyne e2v and other partners.
  • Contribute to CEI research activities as required.
