We are working with a leading macro trading firm in London to find a skilled IT Support Engineer. As part of the IT support team, you'll be tasked with ensuring that the firm’s infrastructure runs smoothly and efficiently, providing direct support to the trading desks, quants, and developers who rely on fast, uninterrupted systems. This role is perfect for someone with a solid foundation in IT support, a good understanding of Windows-based environments, and strong PowerShell scripting skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day technical support for the trading floor and other business units, addressing hardware, software, and networking issues.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to trading systems, market data feeds, and other mission-critical infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate tasks, improve operational efficiency, and assist with system diagnostics.
- Monitor, maintain, and support the Windows OS environment across desktop, server, and virtualized platforms.
- Collaborate with traders, quantitative researchers, and internal IT teams to resolve complex, time-sensitive technical issues in a fast-paced environment.
- Ensure business continuity by maintaining backups, performing system health checks, and supporting disaster recovery operations.
- Act as the point of contact for resolving incidents and service requests, escalating more complex issues to senior IT staff when needed.
- Maintain clear documentation of all support incidents, procedures, and resolutions to build a robust internal knowledge base.
- Support the deployment and rollout of new systems and applications, ensuring minimal downtime and user disruption.
- Continuously improve internal tools, processes, and workflows to optimize the firm's technology infrastructure.
- Stay updated with emerging technologies and trends to recommend improvements and ensure the firm remains at the forefront of IT excellence.
Required Skills & Experience:
- 1–5 years of experience in an IT support role, preferably within a financial services or trading environment.
- Strong PowerShell scripting skills, including automation, diagnostics, and troubleshooting.
- In-depth understanding of Windows operating systems (Windows Server, Windows 10/11), as well as core IT services like Active Directory, DNS, Group Policy, and file systems.
- Solid understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, VPNs, firewalls, etc.) and the ability to troubleshoot connectivity issues.
- Experience with monitoring tools and techniques for system health and performance.
- Familiarity with trading systems and technologies used in a fast-paced trading environment is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or a related field.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities, and respond to urgent issues promptly.
- Exposure to Linux systems and scripting (Bash, etc.) is a plus.
- Familiarity with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure) and hybrid cloud environments.
- Understanding of cybersecurity practices and techniques, especially within the financial services industry.
- Exposure to DevOps tools and processes.
