Job summary

Wiltshire Police is seeking a confident Designing Out Crime Officer to advise on crime prevention in places and built environments. You will review planning applications with authorities, promote proven design principles, and lead site visits and audits.

The role emphasises strong communication, cross-agency collaboration, and a commitment to ongoing professional development, including the Level 5 Diploma in Designing Out Crime.

Qualifications

• Strong communication and influencing skills to present a logical case and challenge proposals.
• Experience in developing effective working relationships with partner organisations and stakeholders.
• Ability to assess information, identify risks and recommend practical solutions addressing underlying problems.
• Willingness and ability to complete the Level 5 Diploma in Designing Out Crime and maintain annual CPD.
• Ability to manage a varied workload, produce clear written reports and travel across Wiltshire as required.

Responsibilities

• Review planning applications and development proposals with partners to identify crime risks and mitigation.
• Identify potential risks and recommend practical and sustainable crime prevention solutions.
• Promote Secured by Design standards and NPCC-approved initiatives in built environments.
• Act as a key contact for Wiltshire Police on designing out crime and the built environment.
• Undertake site visits and environmental visual audits; contribute to problem-solving initiatives.
• Represent the Force at internal, partnership and regional meetings and communicate specialist information clearly.
