Job summary

Made Tech Group in Bristol is looking for an experienced interaction and service designer to lead end-to-end design for a product team, influencing direction and assuring quality. You will act as the design expert, facilitate the process, and mentor others, applying best practices across projects.

You will champion design standards and contribute to communities of practice while collaborating with clients and peers to deliver high-quality public services.

Description

They work within a team to design and deliver public services. They do this by influencing the direction, assuring the quality of design delivery within their team and by leading the end-to-end design of a chosen service. They are active members of a healthy user‑centred design (UCD) community and culture at Made Tech.

Key Responsibilities

• Hands‑on design for one product/team
• Acts as the design subject matter expert on a product team, facilitating the design process and communicating design decisions to the team and stakeholders
• Expected to find out potential problems, shape them, and conduct solutions
• Recognises when to ask for further guidance and support
• Work is reviewed with the occasional need for direction or implementation changes
• Contributes to communities of practice, discussing and sharing suggestions, approaches and ideas - including proactively seeking feedback on own work
• Able to develop new and novel approaches to highly complex design challenges, based on fundamental design principles.
• An expert practitioner in leading design tools, including but not limited to Figma, the GOV.UK prototyping kit, and Adobe InDesign.
• Advocate for the Interaction and Service Design practice internally and externally.
• Able to coach and mentor others, and define the interaction and service design standards which others will apply.
• Influences the organisation, clients, partners and peers on the contribution of interaction and service design.
• Develop a wide breadth of knowledge across the industry or business.
• Assure the quality of design delivery within their team
• Introduce good habits for sharing and improving design work
• Take part occasionally in the hiring of designers and researchers
• Help define Made Tech design principles through delivering good public services
• Contribute to a design studio culture at Made Tech and client offices
• Delivery of good public services for users with clients
