Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is seeking a practical and reliable Design and Technology Technician to support the DT department in a Swindon secondary school. You will prepare tools, materials and equipment for practical lessons and set up workstations to ensure classes run smoothly.

You will maintain workshop stock, assist with orders, conduct safety checks and support staff with practical activities, promoting a clean, safe and well-organised workshop environment.

Qualifications

• Previous DT technician, workshop or practical technical experience is essential.
• School-based technician experience is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of workshop safety and equipment maintenance.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• A practical, proactive approach to problem-solving.
• Able to work collaboratively and manage preparation deadlines.
• An enhanced DBS check will be required in line with the role.

Responsibilities

• Prepare tools, materials and equipment for practical DT lessons.
• Set up workstations and ensure resources are ready before classes.
• Maintain, organise and monitor workshop equipment and stock.
• Assist with ordering materials and checking deliveries.
• Carry out routine equipment checks and report faults.
• Maintain clean, safe and organised workshop areas.
• Follow health and safety procedures when handling tools and machinery.
• Work closely with teaching staff to support practical activities.
