Job summary

Queensmead School is seeking a Design & Technology Technician to support the Design & Technology Department. The role involves setting up and maintaining workshop equipment, assisting with laser cutting and 3D printing, and preparing resources for lessons across hard materials such as woods, metals and plastics.

Ideal candidates will have hands-on workshop experience, with the ability to support students and staff in a busy educational environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in an educational environment is advantageous.
• Knowledge of basic engineering and/or mechanics is advantageous; training will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Set up, use and maintain workshop equipment and machinery.
• Prepare resources and equipment for lessons (woods, metals, plastics).
• Order supplies and maintain machinery.
• Support students and staff in the workshops.

DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY TECHNICIAN

NJC Scale 4, Points 7-10, £26,122 - £27,263 actual salary per annum

(£30,288 - £31,611 FTE)

Monday to Friday / 36 hrs pw / Term time plus one week (39 weeks)

Required for December 2026

With access to new facilities completed in 2022, the building includes three workshops and two computer suites, with areas set aside for 3D printing and laser cutting projects.

We are looking for a DT Technician to provide support for the Design & Technology Department. The ideal candidate will be competent in the set-up, use and maintenance of workshop equipment and machinery, new technologies such as laser cutting and 3D printing and art processes. It will involve preparing resources and equipment for lessons: hard materials: woods, metals and plastics, as well as maintaining machinery and ordering supplies.

Previous experience of working in an educational environment is advantageous because you will need to be able to support students and staff in the workshops. A knowledge of basic engineering and/or mechanics would be highly advantageous, however, full training will be given.

Hours of work:- Monday to Thursday, 8am to 3.45pm, with 30 minutes lunch (unpaid)

Friday, 8am to 3.30pm, with 30 minutes lunch (unpaid)
