Shape the Design Behind Successful Project Delivery

At Arcus, we're continuing to grow our Projects division and are looking for a talented Design and Project Manager to help strengthen our design management capability across a diverse portfolio of refurbishment, fit-out and construction projects nationwide.

This is an exciting opportunity for either an experienced Design Manager / Project Manager looking for a broader role, or an Assistant Design Manager, Design Coordinator, Architectural Technologist, Technical Manager or Project Manager ready to take the next step in their career. You'll play a key role in ensuring design information is coordinated, compliant, buildable and delivered on time, whilst working closely with our project, commercial, pre-construction and operational teams.

As Arcus Projects continues to grow, this role offers genuine opportunity to develop your career, broaden your experience across a diverse portfolio of national projects and help shape how design management evolves within the business.

What You'll Be Doing

As Design and Project Manager, your primary focus will be leading and coordinating design activities throughout the project lifecycle whilst supporting wider project delivery where required.

Design Management

  • Coordinating consultants, specialist designers and design teams across multiple projects.

  • Managing design programmes, tracking deliverables and monitoring key milestones.

  • Facilitating design workshops, coordination meetings and technical reviews.

  • Reviewing design information to ensure compliance with client requirements, statutory obligations and buildability standards.

  • Managing RFIs, technical queries, design changes and design risk registers.

  • Coordinating information flow between clients, consultants, subcontractors and delivery teams.

  • Supporting BIM, document control and Common Data Environment (CDE) processes.

  • Assisting with Building Regulations, Building Safety Act and CDM compliance requirements.

Pre-Construction Support

  • Supporting bids, tenders and technical submissions.

  • Contributing to design reviews and buildability assessments.

  • Assisting with consultant appointments and design responsibility matrices.

  • Supporting the development of design programmes and project methodologies.

  • Participating in client presentations and tender interviews when required.

Project & Programme Coordination

  • Supporting Project and Contracts Managers with planning, reporting and project controls.

  • Monitoring design progress and identifying impacts to programme, cost and delivery.

  • Providing project updates and supporting governance reporting.

  • Assisting with project close-out, handover documentation and lessons learned activities.

Commercial & Risk Management

  • Supporting value engineering and buildability reviews.

  • Identifying design-related risks, opportunities and change implications.

  • Maintaining awareness of contract obligations, including JCT and NEC environments.

  • Supporting procurement of specialist design services and packages.

What We're Looking For

We're open-minded about backgrounds and experience.

You may already be an experienced Design Manager looking for greater variety and responsibility.

Equally, you might currently be:

  • An Assistant Design Manager ready for your next step.

  • A Project Manager with strong design coordination experience.

  • An Architectural Technologist or Technical Manager seeking broader construction exposure.

  • A Construction Professional looking to move into a design-focused role.

What matters most is attitude, capability and ambition.

Essential

  • HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Construction, Architecture, Building Services, Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.

  • Full UK Driving Licence.

  • Experience within a contractor, consultant, architectural, engineering or design coordination environment.

  • Understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing and buildability.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable

  • Degree in a relevant discipline.

  • Professional membership or working towards accreditation.

  • Experience within retail, commercial, public sector or FM project environments.

  • Knowledge of JCT and NEC contract frameworks.

  • BIM, Information Management or Common Data Environment experience.

  • Project management qualifications or training.

  • Health & Safety training and CDM awareness.
