Design Office Manager / Chief Mechanical Engineer - Norwich - Permanent, Full Time

Due to expansion, an exciting position has become available for a Chief Mechanical Engineer to join a friendly engineering team based in Norwich, Norfolk. The main purpose of the role is to lead the Mechanical Engineering team, including the Drawing Office, ensuring efficient resource use to maximize output while maintaining rigorous attention to detail.

The ideal candidate will have experience with disciplines such as lateral analysis, thermal analysis, stress analysis, and noise prediction.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the departmental workload is evenly distributed and engineering instructions are issued timely.
  • Motivate the drawing office team to improve and maintain morale.
  • Participate in updating the department's CAD to 3D.
  • Produce departmental statistics for senior management.
  • Respond to technical queries from other departments.
  • Support Sales and Service, including site visits and overseas travel.
  • Implement value engineering, design for manufacture, and concurrent engineering principles.
  • Undertake mechanical design analysis to ensure product integrity.
  • Assist Applications Design Draughtsmen with modifications and new designs.
  • Coordinate electrical and mechanical design processes for optimal product performance.
  • Identify and address training needs within the team.
  • Ensure health and safety procedures and good housekeeping are followed.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Understanding of technical drawings.
  • Experience in manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge in lateral, thermal, stress analysis, and noise prediction.
  • Deep understanding of hazardous area certification.
  • Experience in seismic analysis.
