Job summary

Orion Electrotech Ltd in the United Kingdom is seeking a Design Office Manager to lead the design office function and ensure the efficient delivery of engineering and design projects to quality, cost, and schedule targets.

You will provide technical leadership, manage resources, and drive improvements across design activities while complying with standards and company procedures. The role offers progression and opportunities to work with clients, including travel outside the UK.

Qualifications

• Degree or HND in Engineering or related discipline required.
• Significant experience in engineering design and project delivery.
• 3 years' experience with CAD, preferably SolidWorks.
• Experience in steel, aluminium, and glass industries.
• Strong leadership and people-management skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Commercial awareness and budget management.
• Ability to motivate and develop high-performing teams.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the design office function to deliver projects on time and within budget.
• Provide technical leadership across design activities and ensure compliance with standards.
• Coordinate resources and priorities across multiple concurrent design projects.
• Drive continuous improvement in design processes and procedures.
• Liaise with clients and stakeholders to manage expectations.
• Mentor and develop high-performing design teams.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing the design office function, ensuring the efficient delivery of engineering and design projects to agreed quality, cost, and schedule targets. The role provides technical leadership, resource management, and continuous improvement across all design activities while ensuring compliance with applicable standards, regulations, and company procedures.

What we would like from the Design Office Manager:

• Degree/HND in Engineering or a related discipline
• Significant experience in engineering design and project delivery
• Strong understanding of engineering design processes
• 3 years’ experience with CAD (preferably SolidWorks)
• Experience within process-related industries such as steel, aluminium, and glass
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities
• Strong Leadership and people management skills
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities

What we offer the Design Office Manager:

• Salary up to £70,000 doe
• 35-hour week
• 25 days annual leave 8 Bank Holidays
