Job summary

Wates Group in Sunderland seeks a Design Manager to support a range of construction projects in the region. You will manage the design process, coordinate internal and external design teams, and ensure designs meet both buildability and compliance requirements.

The role requires experience in large-scale construction design, collaboration with specialists, and a focus on value-driven outcomes. A DBS check is noted and a strong be nepotistic culture but supports development.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in a relevant construction discipline.
• Experience delivering and/or managing construction design on large projects within regulated industries is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Manage the design process throughout the project lifecycle from pre-construction to completion.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams and external consultants.
• Ensure designs comply with statutory, contractual and project requirements.
• Review design information to ensure buildability, quality and programme alignment.
• Manage design risk, change control and technical queries.
• Support development of innovative and value-driven design solutions.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants and supply chain partners.
• Contribute to bid and pre-construction activities where required.
