Job summary

Bowmer + Kirkland is seeking a Design Manager to lead design coordination across major projects from our B+K Property Services team. You will drive design intent, manage BIM processes, and ensure compliance with Building Regulations, CDM and Building Safety Act, while embedding health and safety and digital innovation.

Based at our Alfreton Road site in Derbyshire, this full-time role requires leadership, collaboration with clients and subcontractors, and a strong track record delivering on

Qualifications

• Proven design management experience in main contracting.
• Experience on large residential/commercial projects (£70m+).
• Bachelor's degree in a construction-related discipline.
• Solid knowledge of Building Regulations, CDM, and Building Safety Act.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and subcontractors.
• Proficient in BIM processes and platforms (Viewpoint 4P).

Responsibilities

• Lead the design process across one or more projects.
• Coordinate the full design team including consultants and subcontractors.
• Manage design programme, RFIs, change control and document control.
• Ensure designs comply with Building Regulations and CDM.
• Drive SiD and embed buildability and health & safety risk mitigation.
• Oversee BIM coordination, clash detection reviews, and digital model audits.
• Support tendering, value engineering and pre-construction activities.
• Maintain technical and commercial awareness in design decisions.
• Engage in client meetings and lead design-based communications.
• Mentor junior design team members and support CPD development.
