Unknown in Tidworth/Swindon area, a full-time Design Manager is sought to drive design from pre-construction through site completion on a £15 million project. Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Design Manager or Senior Design Coordinator within a UK regional main contractor (or an architectural/engineering background looking to step into contractor-side design management).
• Strong knowledge of current UK Building Regulations, Planning Frameworks, and Building Safety legislation.
• Experience managing multi-disciplinary projects across commercial, healthcare, or education sectors (values typically £2m to £25m+).
• Excellent leadership and conflict-resolution skills to keep external consultant teams accountable and motivated.
• HNC/HND or Degree qualified in a relevant discipline (Construction Management, Architecture, Civil Engineering, or similar).

Responsibilities

• Pre-Construction & Tendering: Review employer's requirements, assess design risks, propose value engineering solutions, and assist with technical submissions during tenders.
• Design Coordination: Lead and manage external design consultants, ensuring their deliverables align with the project scope, budget, and procurement program.
• Site Delivery & Compliance: Work closely with the site project manager and package subcontractors to resolve design queries (RFIs), monitor buildability, and ensure compliance with Building Regulations, Planning Conditions, and BREEAM/sustainability targets.
• Information Release Management: Maintain and manage the Design Release Program (DRP) to keep procurement and construction on track.
• Design Reviews: Chair regular design team meetings, coordinate BIM models (where applicable), and resolve clashes prior to site execution.
