We're looking for an exceptional Design Manager, an action-orientated design leader ready to help build the strategic design function within Karo.

The Design Lead/Manager will be the creative lead and brand guardian for the visual brand language for our Intimate and Digestive Health Category. Creatively connecting our brands to consumers, at the moments that matter most, in seamless multichannel consumer experiences. The remit includes existing portfolio & innovation; product & communications, and digital & physical channels.

The role will be hands-on from day 1; the Design Lead/Manager will enjoy crafting design themselves and have a passion for consumer health brands. They will be able to manage and direct external agencies and our internal in-house design team to bring our brand assets, campaigns, products, and packaging into production OTIF.

The Design Manager will work hand-in-hand with the Intimate & Digestive Health Global Category Lead and Brand managers. These include Multi-Gyn, Pevaryl, and our Proct portfolio.

The tasks the Design Lead/Manager will undertake to achieve the aim of the role will cover Strategic, Tactical, and Operational responsibilities. These tasks and responsibilities will include:

Design Strategy & Processes

  1. Design thinking methodologies for brand building and innovation
  2. Brand toolkits and guidelines
  3. Circular and Sustainable Design
  4. Inclusive Design

Design Experience

  1. Holistic Design for Multichannel creative content and assets
  2. Creation of ownable and distinctive assets to drive brand recall and build distinctive memory structures for consumers
  3. Delivery of high-quality brand assets for use across all channels
  4. Creative Direction for the Brands
  5. Design for sensory (sonic, haptic, etc.)

Design Quality

  1. Creation of high-quality VBL design assets
  2. VBL Guidelines for Brands
  3. Creation of strategic portfolio architectures to design packaging ranges
  4. Packaging Design for existing ranges and new product development
  5. Structural packaging design
  6. Digital-first thinking for packaging formats and experiences
  7. Manufacturer liaison for design quality across designed materials (i.e. packaging, shopper materials, expert materials, etc.)
  8. Work closely with the Artwork Production Lead and operations on print trails and packaging standards for print quality and consistency

Design Talent & Community

  1. Part of the Design Leadership Team working alongside other category design leaders
  2. Help establish and build design resource networks
  3. Help establish external design talent/relationships for specialist or ad-hoc design requirements
  4. Help to embed design collaboration to create a strong 'Design and Creative Center of Excellence' within Karo
  5. Help build design culture and inspiration for the whole business

Design Budgets

  1. Design budgets for the Intimate and Digestive health category brands

Requirements

  1. At least 3-5 years of relevant experience as a designer and 1-2 years of experience in a lead role
  2. Design Management & Leadership Qualifications (preferred but not essential)
  3. Expert in strategic design thinking methodologies and frameworks
  4. In-depth understanding of Design for business
  5. Experienced in designing for consumer healthcare (preferred but not essential)
  6. Strong Creative Direction Skills
  7. Knowledgeable in Inclusive Design and Design for Circularity and Sustainability
  8. Design expertise across Product, Packaging, Shopper, Digital and Expert to create omnichannel experiences for consumers and experts
  9. Experienced in Design for digital platforms
  10. In-depth knowledge of Design industry software (e.g. Adobe CC, inc. Ai, Id, Psd, Xd, Pp, 3D CAD software, Rendering/Visualisation Software, etc.)
  11. Product Design and Structural packaging Knowledge (3D Design)
  12. Artwork and Print knowledge across various printing methods
  13. Experienced in manufacturing and supplier liaison to ensure design quality and consistency are achieved
  14. Design Budget Management across design activities
