Job summary

Ernest Gordon Recruitment is seeking an experienced Design Manager (Engineering) in Portsmouth to lead a small team of Design Engineers. You will own the design and drawing processes, delivering detailed 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings using Autodesk Inventor.

The role involves introducing AI-assisted design tools, reviewing current processes for efficiency and supporting CAM and larger-scale manufacturing plans, with a salary of £52,000–£56,000 and a strong progression path.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Experience in a lead CAD Design or Mechanical Design position
• Experience using Autodesk Inventor

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of Design Engineers, currently two engineers
• Take ownership of the company’s design and engineering drawing processes
• Produce and maintain detailed 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings using Autodesk Inventor
• Create drawings with appropriate tolerances, materials and finishes
• Review and streamline existing design processes to improve efficiency
• Introduce new technology, including AI-assisted design tools, to improve CAD modelling
• Support CAM development and increased production-scale manufacturing capabilities
