Job summary

SRT Marine Systems plc in Bristol offers a Design Manager – Construction / Civils role with hybrid working and up to 75% global travel. You will lead safety-by-design and civil/geotechnical design across complex projects, coordinating with customers, teams and subcontractors to deliver compliant scopes.

The role requires degree-level civil/geotechnical training, proven design and management experience, strong communication, and IT proficiency (CAD/Office).

Qualifications

• Degree level education in civil/geotechnical engineering or equivalent with formal training.
• Strong civil engineering experience and management/design of civil or geotechnical works.
• Experience with designs for towers, data centres or similar would help.
• International design knowledge is a plus.
• Proficient with Word, Excel and CAD.

Responsibilities

• Lead safety-by-design across projects and ensure design processes are followed.
• Review and approve civil design work, including site design and enablement.
• Coordinate with customers, project teams and subcontractors through design phases.
• Support tender processes and interpret scope of works.
• Develop policies to improve team delivery and design aids.
• Act as CDAE or similar when required.
• Upskill teams and advance engineering design delivery.
• Contribute to development of design concepts and tools.

SRT are recruiting for a Design Manager – Construction / Civils, who along with the project teams will be at the forefront of working with our customers for the build and national integration of our systems. These projects are typically a long-term initiative, implemented in phases to maximise operational efficiency and effectiveness.

In the role of Design Manager – Construction / Civils, you will collaborate with customers, project teams, internal stakeholders and subcontractors through the design and project phases; to deliver safe and suitable scope of works in line with the project objectives.

You as our Design Manager – Construction / Civils will be based from our Bristol office with flexibility for Hybrid working. This role will require up to 75% Global travel in support of the business, and the delivery of our projects.

Key Responsibilities - Design Manager – Construction / Civils (not exhaustive):

• Drive a Safety by Design approach for all projects
• Ensure that the design processes are reviewed, communicated and implemented. Identify where deviations from processes are required and ensure that appropriate exceptions processes are implemented
• Lead and review various civil project designs including reinforced concrete design and detailing, site design and enablement, land development, drainage systems, building and structure installation
• Maintain compliance of CDM regulations and all other legal and regulatory requirements associated with the nature of designs
• Undertake technical quality assurance reviews and provide design approval as required
• Assist in the management of the tender process, understand and interpret scope of works, provide advice and expertise
• Develop and implement policies, processes and procedures to support the continual improvement of the teams
• Where appropriate and required, act as Contractor Design Approval Engineer (CDAE) or equivalent (project dependant)
• Support in the advancement of the engineering design delivery for the teams, with particular focus on upskilling and use of software
• Contribute to the development and updating of the design aids and computer programmes and assist in the analysis of new design concepts

Experience - Design Manager – Construction / Civils (not exhaustive):

• Degree level education or equivalent with formal training in civil engineering and/or geotechnical engineering
• Strong, proven experience in the civil engineering industry and the management and design of civil or geotechnical engineering works
• Experience of civil design for communication towers, data centres etc. would prove highly beneficial
• Experience of international design knowledge would prove highly beneficial
• IT Literate (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, CAD)
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to adjust communication style to suite customers
