Job summary

SRT Marine Systems plc is seeking a Design Manager - Construction / Civils to lead design activities across projects from Bristol with hybrid flexibility. The role involves collaborating with customers, project teams and subcontractors to deliver safe, fit-for-purpose scopes of works and to drive a Safety by Design approach.

You will review design processes, lead civil design tasks including concrete, land development and drainage, ensure CDM compliance, and support tendering and upskilling

Qualifications

  • Degree level education or equivalent with formal training in civil engineering and/or geotechnical engineering.
  • Strong, proven experience in the civil engineering industry and the management and design of civil or geotechnical engineering works.
  • Experience of civil design for communication towers, data centres etc. would prove highly beneficial.
  • Experience of international design knowledge would prove highly beneficial.
  • IT literate (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, CAD).
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to adjust communication style to suit customers.

Responsibilities

  • Drive a Safety by Design approach for all projects.
  • Ensure that the design processes are reviewed, communicated and implemented.
  • Lead and review various civil project designs including reinforced concrete design and detailing, site design and enablement, land development, drainage systems, building and structure installation.
  • Maintain compliance of CDM regulations and all other legal and regulatory requirements associated with the nature of designs.
  • Undertake technical quality assurance reviews and provide design approval as required.
  • Assist in the management of the tender process, understand and interpret scope of works, provide advice and expertise.
  • Develop and implement policies, processes and procedures to support the continual improvement of the teams.
  • Where appropriate and required, act as Contractor Design Approval Engineer (CDAE) or equivalent (project dependant).
  • Support in the advancement of the engineering design delivery for the teams, with particular focus on upskilling and use of software.
  • Contribute to the development and updating of the design aids and computer programmes and assist in the analysis of new design concepts.

Job description

In the role of Design Manager - Construction / Civils, you will collaborate with customers, project teams, internal stakeholders and subcontractors through the design and project phases; to deliver safe and suitable scope of works in line with the project objectives. You as our Design Manager - Construction / Civils will be based from our Bristol office with flexibility for Hybrid working. This role will require up to 75% Global travel in support of the business, and the delivery of our projects. Key Responsibilities - Design Manager - Construction / Civils (not exhaustive):

  • Drive a Safety by Design approach for all projects
  • Ensure that the design processes are reviewed, communicated and implemented. Identify where deviations from processes are required and ensure that appropriate exceptions processes are implemented
  • Lead and review various civil project designs including reinforced concrete design and detailing, site design and enablement, land development, drainage systems, building and structure installation
  • Maintain compliance of CDM regulations and all other legal and regulatory requirements associated with the nature of designs
  • Undertake technical quality assurance reviews and provide design approval as required
