Job description

About the role

Balfour Beatty is seeking a dedicated and skilled Design Manager (Bridges) to join our Major Projects team at the iconic Old Oak Common development in London.

HS2's new c. 1 billion Old Oak Common station will become the UK's best-connected rail station upon completion. Our Balfour Beatty VINCI SYTRA joint venture will be responsible for the final design, construction, and commissioning of the station in Northwest London.

The construction of the HS2 station's heavy civils infrastructure is nearing completion at the Old Oak Common site. The baseline detailed design has been accepted by the client, and the appointment of suppliers to build the integrated station is close to finalization.

To enable the re-alignment of the existing railway corridor, the rail supporting structures need to be rebuilt.

As a Design Manager (Bridges), your role will involve ensuring the timely delivery of quality-assured designs by consultants, coordinating with construction teams and stakeholders. The package interfaces with other works in the same constrained zone, including bridge replacements and highway realignment works.

What you'll be doing
  • Develop and compile technical change design packages with consultants to meet project timelines and key dates
  • Manage the delivery of technical submissions from Work Package contractors
  • Coordinate between design and construction teams and subcontractors
  • Support Engineering, BIM, and Technical Assurance teams to achieve Code 1 Acceptance of all Design Deliverables
Who we're looking for
  • An engineering degree or demonstrated abilities through a successful career in this field
  • Expertise in Design Management or Engineering Management
  • Proficiency in English communication, both verbal and written
