Job summary

ERSG is seeking a Design Manager with a Civil Engineering background to lead the design of infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects on Wastewater and Water frameworks from outline to detailed design, construction and commissioning support.

You will manage an in‑house team of designers, coordinate multi‑discipline inputs, ensure quality and safety standards, and maintain strong client relationships while reporting to the Engineering Director.

Qualifications

• Lead the design of infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects from outline to detailed design.
• Undertake Principal Designer (CDM 2015) duties for the company.
• Coordinate internal and external activities for civil and infrastructure design.
• Prepare drawings, reports, specifications and estimates with document control.
• Manage client relationships and provide project updates to senior management.

• Coordinate a wide range of discipline inputs and monitor client relationships.
• Plan, programme and commercially manage design activities; present projects for audit.
• Ensure effective communication with Project Managers and clients and manage workload.
• Provide technical guidance to junior engineers, technicians, and apprentices.
• Maintain ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 quality/environmental procedures.
• Promote innovative thinking and professional development within the team.

Job Description

• As design manager you will be responsible for the direct management of an in-house team of designers. You will oversee, promote and develop our design processes using technical expertise to ensure compliance with quality standards and to deliver a first class design service.
• Undertake the Principal Designer (CDM 2015) duties on behalf of the company. Embrace the importance of Health & Safety in all circumstances and lead by example
• Performing and coordinating internal and external activities associated with civil and infrastructure design, in line with client, specifications and design standards.
• Duties will include managing and coordinating the preparation of design solutions at various stages of a project; preparation of drawings, reports, specifications, and estimates; document management; attendance at meetings and checking the work of other team members to ensure accuracy.
• Co-ordination of a wide range of discipline inputs; monitoring and protecting our client relationships; planning and programming; commercial management and presenting projects for audit.
• Maintaining on-going communication with relevant Project Managers and clients when required to ensure effective communications on matters relevant to the project. This also includes managing the overall design team workload and providing monthly updates to the Engineering Director and Framework Managers.
• Contributing to the resolution of technical issues on projects and providing technical guidance to other team members, such as junior engineers, technicians, and apprentices.
• Working in collaboration with other design disciplines to ensure the integrity of the overall design within required timescales and cost.
• Promoting and developing the technical capability of other team members and where required assisting with their professional development.
• Promoting innovative and entrepreneurial thinking and behaviour through continual professional development and keeping up to date with innovations and developments.
• Performing other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time by your line managers, project managers or by the business.

• Maintain quality and environmental control procedures in accordance with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
• Create and maintain strong relations with clients, design teams and neighbours as well as any other stakeholders.
