Job description

We're looking for a Design Manager to join our Natural Resources team based in Falmer, Brighton, to lead and manage engineering design delivery for assigned water projects on our new 7-year, cGBP1bn framework with Southern Water.

Location

Agile working from home with visits to the Falmer office, East Sussex, on a weekly/bi-weekly basis.

Responsibilities

As a Design Manager, you'll provide expert engineering support to the design and construction of the Southern Water portfolio of non-infrastructure, water, and wastewater projects covering Kent, Sussex, Hampshire, and the Isle of Wight.

  1. Spearhead and optimize the engineering assurance process for designs prepared by partners at outline design and Capital Delivery partners at tender and construction design.
  2. Ensure that the Engineering Design team, design consultants, and construction partners develop technically and economically proficient engineering solutions.
  3. Implement design quality procedures upholding the right-first-time philosophy.
  4. Seek opportunities to enhance affordability and value throughout the design process.
  5. Maintain compliance with Construction Design & Management (CDM) Regulations, managing design-related health and safety risks.
What are we looking for?

This role of Design Manager is ideal if you have:

  1. A degree-level qualification (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline.
  2. Experience managing and leading a multi-discipline technical engineering team, with a proven track record of achieving sustainable performance against challenging business targets.
  3. Significant knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes and a full driving license for site visits.
